PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification.

Project Management Professional (PMP) is a credential offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI), USA. As of 30 June 2009, there were 359,973 PMP certified individuals distributed globally. The credential is obtained by documenting 3 or 5 years work experience in project management, completing 35 hours of project management related training in an organization that is registered with PMI as a Registered Education Provider(REP), and scoring a certain percentage of questions on a written, multiple choice examination.

PMP Exams

The examination is a rigorous one covering the Five Project management process groups (Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and controlling and closing) and nine knowledge areas (Management of Project Integration, Scope, Time, Cost, Quality, Human Resources, communication, Risk and Procurement) as per Project Management Body of knowledge –Edition 4 (PMBOK®-4). PMP certification is recognized by major companies and government agencies worldwide. Many organizations want their employees performing the Project Management role to be PMP certified. The same is given due weight when an organization selects a sub–contractor to execute their projects. The PMP certification therefore has become a market differentiator and order winner.
