IT

India as a Global brand has become synonymous with the rise of the Indian Software exports industry. Till recently, reference to Indian IT industry generally implied the Software industry and that too exports from India. However, in the past few years while the Software export industry at about $17 Bn has become the single largest contributor to exports from India, the overall development of the Indian economy has also fuelled the growth of other segments of ‘IT’. The industry too has got a fillip in recent years with the reduction in import duties and the rapid adaptation of IT as a business enabler by domestic industry. The new generation industries or those with aggressive private players like Banking & Financial Services and Telecom have been in the forefront bringing global best practices in the usage of IT in their business. With rapid globalization and integration of Indian business globally as is witnessed by the cross border Mergers & Acquisitions, the domestic IT industry is also poised to grow rapidly from the current $6-6.5 Bn and is expected to become the 3rd largest IT market globally in about 5 years. This will be spearheaded by the early adopters as well as huge IT investments in Insurance, Healthcare, Manufacturing & arrival of large organized players in Retail.

Job opportunities

Opportunities in this industry will be in excess of supply (ref. NASSCOM report) in management roles other than Software Development be it in Sales, Strategic Account Management, Business Development, Functional Specialists, Project Management etc. At the same time there is a dearth of management courses tailored to equip those wanting to pursue a career in these areas of management in the IT industry. Hence an appropriate professional qualification will provide a career edge to the candidate wishing to be in the business areas of the IT industry.
